SEO Friendly URLs As a URL is a very important part of a website it is a good way to make it SEO friendly. This will give your website a boost in rankings in the natural search engine results, thus, giving you many potential visitors to your website.

There are a couple of things to remember when building SEO friendly URLs:

1. Placement of your desired keyword in your URL will increase your ranking, so it may be wise to consider NOT changing your existing URL. Unless you can somehow redirect your URL if it is indeed changed, make it a point to use it for a long time. This is because a change URL may result in broken link and that would greatly decrease you ranking, especially if one of your pages is ranking well in the search engines.

2. Keywords in the URL in itself will not guarantee you great ranking but it will enhance your chances. A webpage with the keyword in it's URL will definitely outrank a web page without it, and as a result will potentially get more visits.

Keyword in the Sub domain

Before people abuse this idea, search engines puts good ranking on web sites which have keywords in their sub-domains, thinking that such websites have a strong correlation between keywords in the sub domain and it's contents, though this is no longer the case, it is still a very good idea to place one on your sub-domain. One of the good reason to do this is that, most of the time, sub-domains give a viewer a general idea on what to expect on a website as to what is its content is. Having your keyword in your URL may also result in it, showing up n the anchor text if someone links your website using your URL

SEO friendly URL's sub domain will always be relevant as to what the website is all about. It will and must include a number of pages in relating to what the keyword themed sub-domain is all about. It is also a good idea that such pages are of unique quality to avoid spam.

Keyword in the Domain

URLs heart and soul is in its essence your domain, thus placing keywords, especially your main one will be very ideal. It will greatly enhance your rankings especially if your domain includes the word or phrase that a web-surfer is the one he is looking for. SEO friendly URL will most of the time then include the keyword in is domain name or if this cant be done will include other important keywords in your domain if it is not possible to use your main one.

Hyphenating keywords in your domain name is another thing one should consider. Not long ago hyphenated keywords did give advantage in rankings, but as of this time, it does not matter anymore, the main point is that you may want to secure the hyphenated version of your URL to secure it so that other people may not use it.

Keyword in Subdirectory/file name

If somehow the keyword cannot be listed in the domain or in the sub domain, put it in the sub-directory. Of course a sub-directory, will be containing relevant pages or things connected to your keyword named sub-directory, if it is just a single page then it is better to use it as a file name. SEO friendly URL will use keywords located in sub-directory or file name as it will enhance your ranking, however, they must be used in either sub-directory or file name. Using it in both sub-directory and file name will result in a spam and will instead decrease your status.
